On The Move - Episode 1

New Year, New Energy!

After a month off social media, I decided to start something new: a personal blog and a YouTube channel.

After much thought, I figured that wearing one of those action cameras around my neck could give you a unique peek into my adventures. The first episode of my YouTube series, On The Move, launched a few days ago.

For the premiere episode, I set out with a simple goal: walk around the West Village in NYC, then head through SoHo, and finally make my way back up to Midtown. Armed with my Rolleiflex, I gave myself a challenge—only two rolls of film (24 pictures) for the entire day.

What I love about the Rolleiflex is how inconspicuous it is. You can get so close to strangers, and nobody notices because you're looking down into the camera instead of pointing it directly at them. Plus, it’s completely silent. For example, the first shots of the manga girl on the train would’ve been impossible with my Leica. Raising a camera to my face in her direction might have sparked questions or a conversation. While that could’ve been interesting, it’s so much easier for an introvert like me to avoid engaging when I don’t have to.

Anyway, here are the photos! I’ve included the contact sheets and a link to my YouTube channel if you feel like following along there, too.
